In the early hours of Wednesday, a man was discovered dead near a dumpster in Laventille, Trinidad, sparking a police investigation into a suspected homicide. The victim was identified as Issac Matherson, a resident of Straker Village in Laventille. According to reports, officers received a distress call around 5:00 a.m. and were confronted with a grisly scene upon arrival.
Matherson, described as slim-built and approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with brown skin, was found face down near the dumpster. He was barefoot, wearing a blue long-sleeve sweater and light blue three-quarter pants. Tragically, he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, with blood visible around his head area.
Adding to the grim scene was a trail of blood stretching roughly 200 to 300 feet from the scene. Police also recovered a pair of grey slippers with white stripes, two spent shell casings, and two live .45 caliber rounds along the path, suggesting a violent encounter.
Residents had reported hearing several loud explosions around 2:00 a.m., but no report was made at the time. The body was only discovered hours later. A District Medical Officer later confirmed Matherson’s death and ordered a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
The case is now in the hands of homicide officers. Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist in their investigation to come forward.
