A Sofia court has ordered Kamyan Dobrev, the driver who caused a crash on Gurko Street in the city centre on Monday, to remain in custody. The incident occurred at the same pedestrian crossing where, three years ago, 14-year-old Filip was fatally run over.
Dobrev was arrested shortly after the crash, and prosecutors requested pre-trial detention. The court agreed, citing the gravity of the incident and the location’s history.
The crossing on Gurko Street has been a point of concern for residents and safety advocates, especially after the 2013 tragedy. Monday’s crash has reignited calls for better pedestrian protections and stricter enforcement.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the crash. No further details about injuries or charges have been released at this time.
