DPWH chief inspects reopened Marcos Highway section

BAGUIO CITY — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez inspected the newly repaired section of Marcos Highway in Barangay Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet, on October 31, following its reopening to traffic the previous evening. The reopening was conducted in accordance with a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure road accessibility ahead of the Undas observance. The rehabilitation project, which cost over P15 million, was initiated to address structural damage that had necessitated a one-way traffic scheme along the route since 2025, following a series of typhoons. During the inspection, Secretary Lopez stated that the DPWH remains committed to completing infrastructure projects initiated under the previous administration. “Ang commitment po na ‘yon ay commitment po sa taongbayan (That commitment is a commitment to the people),” Lopez said. Looking ahead, the DPWH plans to conduct inspections of other infrastructure projects requiring urgent repairs. Among the priority areas identified is the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road, specifically near the Beckel-Lamut Junction in La Trinidad, Benguet.
