Dismissed officer Chin insists ‘I’m no criminal’, blames excess ammunition on oversight

Former Police Constable Elliot Chin, who was among the 17 officers dismissed recently by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, has decided to break his silence. Chin argues that his dismissal, which followed a conviction for possession of excess ammunition, was the result of an honest mistake and not a crime.

The incident that led to Chin’s dismissal began with a search of his home by the Professional Standards Bureau officers. They found 41 rounds of ammunition in excess of the 100 rounds he was authorized to possess under his F.U.L. This search followed a shooting incident in which Chin was involved.

Chin explained that the additional ammunition was inadvertently placed in his bag during a visit to a shooting range three weeks prior to the search. He forgot about the extra rounds, which remained in his bag until the search.

Despite agreeing to a plea deal and accepting a $5,000 bond to keep the peace for three years, Chin maintains there was no criminal intent behind his possession of the additional ammunition. He insists that the incident should be viewed as a simple oversight, not a crime. He further stresses that he has no criminal record.

The former officer has now chosen to speak out in an attempt to clear his name and share his side of the story. He laments the loss of a career to which he dedicated 16 years of his life.
