Tensions have arisen as conflicting accounts surround the arrest of ten men outside the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre (ECRC) in Santa Rosa. Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro alleges the suspects were part of a murder plot against law enforcement, found with a stolen vehicle and a gun. However, acting Prisons Commissioner Hayden Forde refutes this, stating the men were simply awaiting an inmate’s release. The arrests, linked by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) to the ongoing State of Emergency, are said to involve a wider scheme to kill public officials with the aid of inmates. Guevarro warns that any threats will be met with full operational capabilities. This incident follows an attempted riot at the ECRC, with detainees claiming unjust preventative detention orders. Despite this, Forde denies any link between the arrests and the unrest.
