Director Confirms: Recording Police Isn’t Criminal Act

David West, the Director of the Public Complaints Authority, has publicly reaffirmed that recording police officers while they are performing their duties is not a criminal offence. This statement came in response to comments made by High Court judge Justice Frank Seepersad, who has encouraged citizens to document all interactions with the police using their cellphones. This includes routine encounters as well as situations where law enforcement may be acting outside their legal authority. West stressed that the public has the right to record such interactions, provided they do not interfere with the officers’ execution of their duties.
