Agents from the Subregional Directorate of Central Cibao Intelligence (Dintel), in coordination with the Preventive Police, SWAT units, and representatives of the Public Ministry, conducted several searches in different areas of Santiago Province. During the operations, two individuals were arrested and a number of weapons and related items were seized. In the first operation, carried out in the municipal district of La Canela, authorities detained Carlos Leonel Valerio Minaya, known as “Leonel.” The suspect was found in possession of a 9‑mm pistol, its magazine, and ten cartridges, none of which had valid documentation. Police also seized police uniforms, five edged weapons, and three cell phones. A second operation in the same locality resulted in the arrest of Delfín Fermín Liriano, known as “Delfín.” He was found with a 12‑caliber shotgun, four shells, and no documentation, as well as several edged weapons, communication equipment, and two cell phones. A third search, authorized by a court order, took place in the Papayo sector of Villa González municipality. During this operation, a Honda CR80R motorcycle was seized; the vehicle lacked proper documentation and was retained for investigative purposes. The two detainees, along with the seized evidence, will be handed over to the Public Ministry for the appropriate legal proceedings.
