Delta drops Detroit–Keflavík route from its 2027 schedule, ending nonstop link

Delta Air Lines’ nonstop service between Detroit and Keflavík is not scheduled to return in 2027, according to aviation publication The Bulkhead Seat. The withdrawal removes a direct connection between Iceland and the Michigan city that began in 2023.

The publication reports that Icelandair has also withdrawn from the market, leaving Detroit without nonstop service to Iceland. The concrete consequence for the route is the loss of both competing airlines: travellers making the journey will need a connecting flight.

The service began during a brief period of competition between the two carriers. According to The Bulkhead Seat, Delta announced its Detroit–Iceland flights shortly after Icelandair unveiled plans to enter the same market. Delta then scheduled its inaugural departure several days before Icelandair’s launch.

The report also describes a change elsewhere in Delta’s Iceland network. The airline plans seasonal flights between Boston Logan International Airport and Keflavík, with an operating period listed as 12 April to 30 October. That service concerns a different US gateway and does not preserve Detroit’s nonstop connection.

For Iceland’s air links with North America, the supported change is specific: Delta’s Detroit route is absent from the 2027 schedule and, with Icelandair also having withdrawn, the city loses its direct service to Keflavík. The report does not quantify how many passengers will be affected.
