Defence Ministry Denies Independence Cancellation Claims

The Ministry of Defence has moved to reassure the public that Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence Day celebrations remain on schedule, dismissing reports circulating on social media that the national observances have been cancelled.
In a media release issued on Tuesday, the Ministry described the claims as “false and misleading,” stating that no decision has been made to cancel the country’s Independence celebrations.
The Ministry said it is aware of the misinformation being shared online and expressed concern that incomplete and unsubstantiated information was being presented as fact, creating unnecessary confusion among the public.
Officials urged citizens to rely only on information released through authorised Government channels and to exercise caution before accepting or sharing unverified social media posts.
The statement added that the Ministry remains committed to supporting national observances in keeping with established Government policy and will continue to provide official updates through the appropriate channels.
The Ministry concluded by confirming that Independence Day celebrations will proceed as planned.
