Dearborn has earned the Tree City USA designation for the 39th year in a row, a testament to the city’s ongoing commitment to urban forestry. Mayor Abdullah Hammoud announced that the city plants roughly 1,000 trees each year, contributing to a greener environment for residents.
‘This is an achievement we are proud of,’ Hammoud said. ‘We strive to do more, and we ensure that every resident gets a free tree.’ The program not only beautifies the city but also improves air quality and promotes sustainability.
The Tree City USA program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizes communities that meet core standards for tree care and management. Dearborn has consistently met these requirements since first receiving the honor nearly four decades ago.
Residents can obtain a free tree through the city’s initiative, further encouraging community participation in environmental stewardship. The recognition places Dearborn among a select group of cities committed to long-term green practices.
