In a brazen act of theft, an 18-year-old student was robbed of his gold chain outside the Couva Police Station on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. as the student, who attends the National Energy Skills Centre, was seated in a green-band maxi taxi named Exodus. The taxi had stopped near Republic Bank Couva to drop off a passenger when another male passenger allegedly snatched the student’s gold chain, valued at $3,500, from around his neck before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the victim quickly raised an alarm, catching the attention of nearby officers who promptly pursued the suspect on foot. The suspect, a 30-year-old resident of California, was apprehended shortly thereafter and is currently in custody at the Couva Police Station while further investigations are conducted. PC Lal Saroop is in charge of the ongoing inquiries into this incident.
