CWU Intensifies Scrutiny Over TSTT Mismanagement Claims

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has pledged to increase its oversight of the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (TSTT) due to allegations of financial mismanagement, political meddling, and unfair treatment of employees. The Union’s Secretary General, Joanne Ogeer, criticised a recent TSTT board retreat, calling it a wasteful exercise, with the company being charged over $436,000 for the event. Ogeer condemned the retreat, citing videos that showed executives engaging in recreational activities instead of strategic planning. The CWU is now demanding full transparency about the retreat’s costs and other executive expenses. Ogeer also called out TSTT for offering a one-off $15,000 payment to employees, dismissing it as insignificant and accusing the company of failing to meet other financial obligations to its staff. She also accused TSTT leaders of politically motivated appointments, particularly highlighting Roshan Babwah, who had traveled internationally shortly after his appointment. Ogeer also criticised government officials, including the Minister of Public Utilities, for their inaction on TSTT issues.
