A weak earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale struck the Moldavia region of Romania on Friday morning at 4:09 a.m. local time, according to the National Institute of Research and Development for Earth Physics (INCDFP).

The seismic event occurred at a depth of 21.4 kilometres and was reported to have taken place near Suceava in Suceava County. The INCDFP noted that the quake was located 34 kilometres south of Suceava and 58 kilometres from another nearby location.

No injuries or damage have been reported following the tremor, and local authorities have not issued any emergency alerts.

Incidents of this magnitude are common in the region and are typically not considered hazardous.
