Cuban lawmakers examine major labor and state administration reforms

Cuban deputies gathered at the National Capitol this week to analyze two major draft laws: the Labor Code and the Law on Organization of the Central State Administration. The session was chaired by Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State.

Minister of Labor and Social Security, Jesús Otamendiz Campos, presented the Labor Code proposal, describing it as an update that strengthens workers’ rights and duties. He emphasized the crucial role of trade unions in its development and noted that the bill includes judicial, institutional, and union mechanisms to enforce labor rights and promote collective bargaining.

Equally important, deputies reviewed the State Administration bill, which defines the number, names, missions, and functions of ministries and agencies, aligning with recent economic and social reforms. Lawmakers stressed the need for legality and transparency in these structures.

Both bills will be debated in the upcoming 7th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly and are already available on the Parliament’s website for public review.
