Critics question activist’s consistency after warm interactions with government

Activist’s Criticism Sparks Debate Over Past Government Appearances
Social media activist Keeshaun Woodley has come under scrutiny online after publicly criticizing Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar while photos resurfaced showing him attending official government events and posing for photographs with the Prime Minister and other senior public officials.
In a recent Facebook post, Woodley said he was “displeased, disappointed and totally upset” with the Prime Minister’s use of the phrase “stinking coolie,” describing the language as unbecoming of the office and calling for leadership that promotes unity and peace. He also urged political leaders to avoid further deepening national divisions.

Following his statement, social media users circulated images showing Woodley at the Office of the Prime Minister’s Emancipation celebrations at the Diplomatic Centre, as well as photographs of him taking pictures with the Prime Minister and other government figures at previous events.
The contrasting images and comments have generated debate online, with some accusing Woodley of hypocrisy because of his previous interactions with government officials, while others argue that attending public or official events does not prevent an individual from later criticizing the actions or statements of political leaders.
The discussion has since spread across multiple social media platforms, with supporters and critics offering differing views on whether Woodley’s recent comments are inconsistent with his past public appearances alongside government representatives.
