Couple Marries in Hospital After Groom’s Car Crash

On Saturday, a car crash en route to a wedding in Altamonte Springs left groom Kapri DeRamus with multiple severe injuries, yet the couple refused to let the tragedy derail their vows, tying the knot later that evening inside a hospital room.

Authorities say another vehicle crossed a traffic lane at about 4:30 p.m. and struck the car carrying DeRamus. The impact left him with two broken arms, a broken jaw, a broken rib and a cut to his knee, and he was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Just an hour before the ceremony, bride‑to‑be Tyasia Thomas received the devastating news that her future husband was being taken to the hospital. She and her family left the wedding gathering and hurried to the medical center, only to find DeRamus stabilized enough that they could proceed. Instead of an outdoor venue, the couple married in a hospital multipurpose room that same evening, with his grandfather officiating the ceremony.

DeRamus was released from the hospital on Wednesday. The newlyweds now face mounting medical bills and lost income from the crash, prompting an online fundraiser to help cover expenses. Attorneys have said they are waiting for the Florida Highway Patrol’s final investigation report before deciding whether to pursue legal action.

Despite the injuries and financial strain, the couple cites faith and love as anchors as they navigate the challenges ahead. Community members have rallied in support, highlighting a story of resilience that resonates far beyond the hospital walls.
