Constitutional Boundaries of State Institutions Vital for Pakistan’s Stability, Analysis Says

A new analysis by Sanaullah Majeed on Chitral Times highlights the critical importance of constitutional boundaries for Pakistan’s state institutions. Majeed argues that a nation’s true strength lies not just in geography or military power, but in a robust constitutional system, rule of law, and balanced exercise of powers among institutions.

The article comes in the wake of recent remarks by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the constitutional responsibilities of the armed forces, which have sparked national debate. Majeed urges that the issue be understood through the lens of Pakistan’s constitution and Islamic teachings, not political emotions.

Citing specific constitutional articles, Majeed outlines the distinct roles: Article 50 establishes Parliament as the supreme legislative body, Article 90 vests executive authority in the federal government led by the Prime Minister, Article 175 ensures judicial independence, and Article 245 defines the armed forces’ primary duty to defend the country against external aggression and assist civil administration when required.

Majeed emphasizes that a balance of power, mutual respect among institutions, and adherence to constitutional limits are essential for political stability, economic growth, and public trust. He warns that institutional conflict or power struggles harm the nation, while cooperation and constitutional harmony guarantee progress.
