Police are intensifying their search for two remaining suspects following the fatal shooting of Police Constable Romel Kerry Douglas during an attempted robbery in Caroni on Tuesday night.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the 48-year-old officer, who was last assigned to the Four Roads Police Station, was seated in his white Nissan Tiida when another Tiida pulled alongside him. Investigators believe the occupants attempted to rob the officer, leading to an exchange of gunfire. His licensed firearm was also reportedly stolen during the incident.
PC Douglas was found with gunshot wounds by first responders at approximately 11:15 p.m. A 19-year-old man, identified by police as Adetola Ammon, later died from gunshot injuries at the Arima Hospital and is believed to have been involved in the robbery.
Police have since recovered the suspects’ Nissan Tiida and launched a coordinated manhunt for two additional suspects who remain at large. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the authorities as efforts continue to bring those responsible to justice.
