Congo – UPADS : à l’approche des échéances électorales de 2027 et de 2028, le Bureau politique du Parti veut se lancer dans la reconquête du pouvoir

The Political Bureau of the Pan-African Union for Social Democracy (UPADS) convened its first extraordinary session from September 11 to 12, 2026, at the party’s national headquarters in Brazzaville. The session was presided over by Pascal Tsaty-Mabiala, the party’s national president.

The meeting focused on strategic planning for the upcoming legislative and local elections scheduled for June 2027, as well as the senatorial elections set for 2028. According to party leadership, the session aims to reorganize internal structures and define mechanisms for selecting candidates to represent the party in these future contests.

During the opening of the session, Tsaty-Mabiala addressed the current national climate, citing ongoing social, economic, financial, and border-related challenges. He emphasized that the party is entering a phase of consolidation following its second ordinary congress.

A primary objective of the session is the establishment of a commission tasked with the investiture of candidates for the 2027 legislative and local elections. Party officials stated that this commission is intended to formalize the selection process and ensure a more structured approach to candidate designation, moving away from ad-hoc decision-making.

The Political Bureau is also reviewing the party’s broader political, economic, and social positions. As an opposition party, the UPADS intends to use these discussions to formulate its stance on national issues and strengthen its presence across the country.

The session is scheduled to conclude on September 12 with the adoption of a final communiqué, which is expected to outline the party’s roadmap and strategic orientations for the coming electoral cycle.
