Congo – SICOM : Le Président Denis Sassou N’Guesso a reçu le Prix spécial de la Liberté de la Presse à lui décerné

President Denis Sassou N’Guesso of the Republic of the Congo received the Special Press Freedom Award on Tuesday, September 22. The award was presented by representatives of the Salon of Information, Communication and Media (SICOM) during an audience at the presidential palace.

Organizers stated the award recognizes the president’s role in the development of Law 08-2001, enacted on November 12, 2001, which concerns the freedom of information and communication in the country. The distinction was presented in connection with the inaugural edition of SICOM, which concluded on September 19 at the Kintélé International Conference Center.

The three-day event focused on the theme of witnessing, producing, training, and innovating within the media sector during the era of digital technology and artificial intelligence. Professionals from the audiovisual, print, public communication, and digital content sectors participated in the event to discuss the future of the Congolese media landscape.

During the conference, participants committed to several initiatives, including establishing SICOM as an annual event and creating a national observatory for media and digital affairs. The attendees also proposed strengthening cooperation between the Superior Council for Freedom of Communication (CSLC), government authorities, and professional organizations.

Gildas Mayela, the commissioner general of SICOM, presented a synthesis report containing these recommendations to President Sassou N’Guesso. The report outlines proposals intended to adapt the national media sector to technological changes and improve the legal, economic, and professional frameworks governing the industry.
