**LIBREVILLE** — Omar Denis Junior Bongo Ondimba and Julia Otto Mbongo were legally married in a civil ceremony in Libreville on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The ceremony, officiated by municipal mayor Eugène Mba at the Oyo residence, brought together regional heads of state, political figures, business leaders, and religious figures from Congo, Gabon, and elsewhere.
Junior Bongo is the son of the late former Gabonese President Omar Bongo Ondimba and the late Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba, who was the eldest daughter of Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
Among the heads of state in attendance were Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui-Ngema, Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso, and Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi, who traveled to Libreville accompanied by his wife. *(Note: The source text refers to the DRC president as Etienne Tshisekedi Tshilombo).*
The civil wedding follows a traditional marriage ceremony held on August 28, 2025, in Oyo, Congo.
To mark the occasion, the couple organized community events, including the provision of public water boreholes, a public meal, and a concert for residents at the Baie des Rois in Libreville.
