Comoros Opens Nairobi Consulate As Kenya Seeks Deeper Trade, Investment Ties

**Comoros Opens Consulate in Nairobi as Kenya Pursues Deeper Trade and Investment Ties**

*Nairobi, Kenya – September 3 2026* – The Union of the Comoros has opened a new consulate in Nairobi, marking a formal step toward strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Kenya. The consulate was inaugurated by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, who received the Letters of Credence from Mouigni Abdou, the first Consul General of the Union of the Comoros to Kenya.

Mudavadi said the opening of the consulate represents “an important new chapter in the growing relationship between Kenya and Comoros, while reinforcing Nairobi’s position as Africa’s Diplomatic Capital and a gateway to East Africa.” He added that the mission would create opportunities for businesses and investors from both countries to strengthen commercial links and that it would “open greater opportunities for trade, investment, business and regional cooperation, connecting Comoros more closely with Kenya and institutions based in Nairobi.”

The consulate is expected to improve access to consular services for Comorian nationals living in Kenya and to serve as a focal point for increased engagement between the two governments. Mudavadi noted that stronger regional partnerships would translate into expanded markets and investment opportunities for Kenyans, stating, “For Kenya, stronger regional partnerships mean bigger markets, greater investment and more opportunities for our people.”

The development comes as Kenya continues to position Nairobi as a regional centre for diplomacy, international organisations and business, with the government seeking to leverage the capital’s strategic location to expand economic ties across Africa. The opening of the Comoros consulate is seen as a tangible step toward that goal.
