Residents Urge T&TEC to Fix Failing Street Lights Before August 7
Residents of a community in Sangre Grande are calling on the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) to urgently address what they describe as a worsening street lighting problem that has persisted for the past two years.
According to residents, repeated reports have been made to T&TEC regarding faulty street lights, but the issues remain unresolved. They say six street lights are currently not functioning, one has collapsed, and several others are in poor condition.
The community also reported experiencing a power outage lasting more than six hours, adding to growing concerns about safety and reliability.
Residents say the lack of adequate lighting has created significant security risks, particularly for elderly residents and children who must navigate the area after dark. They are now urging T&TEC to complete the necessary repairs before August 7, 2026, stressing that properly illuminated streets are essential for public safety and peace of mind.
Community members hope the matter will be treated as a priority to restore lighting and improve safety for everyone living in the area.
