Thieves targeted Benji’s Bakery on Guaico Tamana Road in Sangre Grande early yesterday morning, making off with pastries, bread, and other items. Fortunately, no one was present during the break-in as the bakery was closed for the day. Investigators from the Sangre Grande CID and CSI arrived promptly to assess the situation and collect evidence. They are currently utilizing CCTV footage to assist in their investigation and to identify those responsible for the theft.
Derrick Benjamin, a community representative, has urged local authorities to enhance police patrols during the late-night hours of 10 pm to 2 am, a timeframe noted for increased criminal activity in the area. He highlighted that there have been over eight reported break-ins across Guaico, St Louis Road, and other nearby neighborhoods. Additionally, Benjamin mentioned an attempted home invasion in which a pensioner and a family member narrowly escaped harm, thanks to the relative’s loud cries that scared off the intruders.
Local residents express growing anxiety about their safety, fearing potential future attacks as they remain uncertain about which home might be targeted next. Several have reported sightings of four armed individuals in their vicinity, further escalating concerns in the community.
