On Christmas morning, while many were still at home, Akeel Guy, a community advocate, was already out on the streets of the Bethesda and Les Coteaux district, delivering Christmas cheer. Using a truck filled with music, toys, and hampers, Guy and his team visited various communities in the area, distributing presents to children and engaging with residents. Their initiative, Hearts & Hampers, was their first Christmas Day hamper drive. It was aimed at creating joyful moments for children, not formal addresses or political messages. The initiative was appreciated by the community, who described Guy as a helpful, caring young man. During the drive, Guy spent time interacting with families and residents, fostering a sense of togetherness and visibility in the district. According to the organizers, Hearts & Hampers is just the start of continued community engagement beyond the festive season.
