Four further education institutions in South West Wales have formed a regional alliance to launch a new skills initiative aimed at preparing the local workforce for emerging economic opportunities. The partnership includes NPTC Group of Colleges, Pembrokeshire College, Gower College Swansea, and Coleg Sir Gâr.
The initiative was formally introduced at a launch event attended by representatives from government, education, and industry. Keynote speakers included Cefin Campbell, Deputy Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education; Mark Dacey, Chief Executive of NPTC Group of Colleges; Dr. Mark Picton, Partnership Director; Dr. Chris Martin OBE, Interim Chair of the Celtic Freeport Board; and Jane Lewis, Manager of the Regional Learning Partnership South West Wales.
The program is funded by Medr, the Commission for Tertiary Education and Research. Its primary objective is to align educational offerings with the requirements of high-growth sectors, including renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, engineering, construction, logistics, and digital technologies. By coordinating their resources and expertise, the colleges intend to create a pipeline of skilled workers to support regional economic development.
Dr. Mark Picton stated that the collaboration is designed to ensure that learners, employers, and communities are prepared for upcoming regional developments. He noted that the partnership aims to provide a coordinated approach to skills development that remains responsive to both industry demands and the needs of local residents.
