Cocoyea Vendor Loses 213 lbs of Plantains to Early-Morning Thief, Authorities Seek Witnesses

A security camera captured a male suspect in Cocoyea on Friday morning taking more than 200 pounds of fresh plantains from a delivery site before market hours. The vendor had dropped off 213 lbs of produce at 1:30 a.m. to stock the stall for the Macoya Market, only to find the cargo missing when he returned at 4:30 a.m.

The suspect was seen wearing a dark graphic t‑shirt with bright yellow and orange designs, dark pants, slippers, and his hair tied back. He calmly lifted the heavy bunches of plantains as if shopping in a supermarket and walked away down the main road, leaving the vendor with a significant loss.

Local vendors and small business owners, many of whom rely on these shipments to make a living, have expressed frustration and urged the community to help identify the individual. The theft represents a blow to hardworking families who depend on fresh produce for their income.
