Cocorite’s Deadly Surge

In a troubling escalation of violence, 25 murders have been recorded in just 15 days, bringing the total to 217 for the year. The most recent victim, Kwasi King, a 20-year-old resident of Upper Cocorite Terrace, was shot dead on the night of July 14, 2025. Police responded to reports of gunfire around 9:35 p.m. in the vicinity of LP #12, where they found King lying on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper body. Despite being rushed to the St. James Medical Complex, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 9:46 p.m. Witnesses reported that King was socializing on a wall near LP #12 when two men approached and opened fire. Investigators recovered 14 spent 9mm shells and two deformed projectiles from the scene, contributing to the ongoing investigation into this alarming trend of violence in the community.
