Cluster Farm by Smallholder Farmers in Ethiopia Reaches 13 Million Hectares

Ethiopia’s Cluster Farming Initiative Covers 13 Million Hectares

The Ethiopian government has announced that the country’s cluster farming initiative has reached a significant milestone, with 13 million hectares of land now being cultivated through this approach. According to Minister of Agriculture Addis Arga, this achievement was realized in the Ethiopian fiscal year that ended on July 7, 2026.

Minister Arga stated that cluster farming is based on the “medemer” philosophy, which emphasizes synergy and collaboration. This approach has been adopted by smallholder farmers in Ethiopia, who have collectively cultivated a substantial area of land through cluster farming.

The cluster farming initiative aims to promote cooperation and knowledge-sharing among smallholder farmers, enabling them to improve their agricultural productivity and efficiency. With 13 million hectares now under cluster farming, the initiative has made significant progress in recent years.
