Club Sando fall to Mount Pleasant, missing Caribbean Cup final

Club Sando’s bid to reach the Concacaf Caribbean Cup final ended with a 2-0 defeat to Jamaica’s Mount Pleasant Football Academy at Sabina Park in Kingston on Thursday night, the Trinidad Guardian reported.

The result completed a 3-1 aggregate semifinal victory for Mount Pleasant. Club Sando now face a third-place playoff, with a place in the Concacaf Champions Cup first round still available if they win that contest.

For the San Fernando club, the defeat leaves a further opportunity to secure a reward from their debut Caribbean Cup campaign. Mount Pleasant, meanwhile, will defend their title in a two-legged final scheduled for December 1 and 5.

The teams entered the second leg level after a 1-1 draw at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain on October 14. Mount Pleasant held an away-goal advantage, making a scoreless draw sufficient for the Jamaican side to advance.

Club Sando goalkeeper Teshorn Ragoo played a central role in keeping the return match goalless before halftime. He intervened after an errant backpass from Jahiem Joseph threatened to give Mount Pleasant an early opening, then came off his line to deny Jalmaro Calvin in the 27th minute.

His biggest intervention came after Andre Raymond conceded a penalty for a foul on Kyle Ming in the 34th minute. Ragoo saved Trayvone Reid’s spot kick, having also denied the same player from the penalty spot in the first leg. This time, Ragoo dived to his left and got both hands to the ball, helping Club Sando reach the interval at 0-0.

Mount Pleasant broke through in the 57th minute. Daniel Green moved infield from the left and passed to Reid, whose through ball released Warner Brown. Brown finished low to Ragoo’s left to give the hosts the lead.

Sando had opportunities to respond. Three minutes after the opener, goalkeeper Shaquan Davis failed to deal cleanly with Daniel David’s low cross, but Luke Phillip could not put his close-range effort on target.

Another chance followed in the 67th minute. Shackiel Henry glanced on a David corner, leaving the ball at Pascall’s feet. The defender’s weak attempt went straight to Davis, allowing Mount Pleasant to preserve their advantage.

Substitute Nickalia Fuller added the second goal in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, securing the Jamaican club’s return to the final. Sando’s attention now turns to the third-place playoff and their remaining route into the Concacaf Champions Cup.
