Emergency services were dispatched to Sant Julià de Lòria after an explosion at the clavegueram on Av. Verge de Canòlich caused several tapes to be displaced.
According to the head of the fire brigade, the incident was triggered by the draining of a gas tank during maintenance work on the street. Residual gas allegedly seeped into the water network and travelled downstream to the parish’s Plaça Major, where it ignited during repairs on a propane gas storage unit near a local building.
Two fire units, comprising five firefighters, arrived on the scene at 13:00 and worked until approximately 15:45. The operation involved restoring and inspecting the water network, and was supported by specialists from the TEDAX-NRBQ, municipal industry workers, and parish traffic officers.
Traffic on Av. Verge de Canòlich was closed for about two and a half hours. After the intervention, normal traffic flow was restored and the incident was reported to have caused only material damage.
Further details are pending.
