Nicusor Dan, in his capacity as a political figure involved in recent government formation consultations, has publicly alleged that a party leader told him in private that prioritizing the party over the country is a standard political practice. During a statement regarding the nomination of Siegfried Muresan for the position of Prime Minister, Dan remarked that he encountered significant electoral preoccupation among political parties and a lack of focus on national interest.

According to Dan, an unnamed party leader told him privately: “That with Romania is your problem, with the party is my problem.” Dan criticized this stance, stating that public officials have a duty to reach compromises to address the needs of various social and professional categories in the country.

The identity of the leader who allegedly made the comment has become a subject of public speculation. Sorin Grindeanu, leader of the PSD, denied making such a statement, suggesting that the claim might be a form of political rhetoric. Additionally, Radu Miruta, a member of the USR, issued a statement on social media clarifying that Dominic Fritz, the president of the USR, did not make the remark during the consultations at the Cotroceni Palace.

Nicusor Dan nominated Siegfried Muresan for the role of Prime Minister, citing his experience in the European Parliament and his negotiation skills. Muresan has requested time to consider the nomination before a final decision is formalized.
