Coming from Gaozhou of south China's Guangdong Province, Qin Xiutao, a post-00s contestant, will compete in the industrial design technology event of the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai a few days later. Qin loved painting from a young age and enjoyed taking things apart and assembling them. After being admitted to the industrial design program at Shenzhen Institute of Technology, she won a gold medal in the industrial design technology event of the second national skills competition in 2023 and subsequently became a member of the national training team for the skill. The industrial design technology event tests competitors on the entire product development process, with a total competition time of more than 20 hours. Its test bank covers a wide range of topics, including smart devices, accessible products for people with disabilities, and pet supplies. During preparation, Qin trains every day according to her plan, honing her design and hands-on skills. She also sets aside time to study the latest products on the market and popular "hit products" favored by consumers, to improve her ability to analyze and design across different topics. As the competition draws near, Qin's preparation has entered the final stage. "I will do my utmost to showcase the design ability and craftsmanship spirit of Chinese skilled competitors, exchange with and learn from young contestants around the world, and draw on each other's strengths," she said. Qin, who is part of the post-2000s generation, is currently training at the Shenzhen Institute of Technology under the guidance of Zhuo Jiapeng, the champion of the industrial design technology event at the 47th WorldSkills Competition. Her preparation involves daily practice sessions focused on refining her design and technical skills, as well as analyzing current market trends and consumer products.

The industrial design technology competition requires participants to demonstrate proficiency across the entire product development process over a period exceeding 20 hours. The scope of the competition includes various design challenges, such as the development of smart devices, accessible products for individuals with disabilities, and pet supplies.

Qin’s path to the international competition followed her success at the second national skills competition in 2023, where she earned a gold medal in industrial design technology. This achievement led to her selection for the national training team.

Regarding the upcoming event, Qin stated that she intends to demonstrate the design capabilities and craftsmanship of Chinese competitors while engaging with international participants to exchange knowledge and skills.
