Chhattisgarh CM: Mahatari Vandan Yojana Turns Women Into Business Owners

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai on Friday said the Mahatari Vandan Yojana has transformed the economic landscape for women in the state. Addressing the ‘Emerging Chhattisgarh – Strong Women, Prosperous State’ conference in Raipur, he revealed that over 68.5 lakh married women receive Rs 1,000 monthly directly into their bank accounts. So far, more than Rs 18,800 crore has been disbursed in 29 installments.

Sai highlighted that many women have started self-employment ventures like tailoring and small shops, and their role in family decisions has grown significantly. He cited the example of Dansasra village in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, where women used their savings to begin construction of a Ram temple.

The state has also registered 2.86 lakh self-help groups involving over 30 lakh women. The government is supporting these groups through the Ready-to-Eat scheme and easy loan initiatives, further boosting women’s financial independence.
