In a dramatic incident on July 28, 2025, a driver for the Ministry of Agriculture fell victim to a robbery shortly after withdrawing $9,000 from the First Citizens Bank in Diego Martin. The 46-year-old victim had placed the cash in an envelope under his driver’s seat upon leaving the bank. After returning to the Ministry’s compound in St Joseph, he parked and secured the vehicle, only to hear a loud noise moments later. Upon investigation, he discovered his car’s front window had been smashed and the envelope containing the cash was missing.
Quick action by law enforcement was pivotal. The victim promptly contacted the E999 Command Centre, which led to an All Points Bulletin (APB) being issued for the suspects. Officers swiftly located the getaway vehicle, a heavily tinted white Hyundai Accent, on Wrightson Road in Port of Spain. Inside, they apprehended two suspects, identified as 35-year-old Husayn Hassan from Diego Martin and 31-year-old Daniel Roberts from Mt Hope, and recovered the stolen cash.
Both suspects were arrested and taken to the St Joseph Police Station, where further investigations are ongoing, led by WPC Francois. The swift police response highlights the importance of prompt reporting in crime situations, allowing for timely intervention and recovery of stolen property.
