In an unprecedented situation, Carnival festivities in Chaguaramas this week led to severe traffic congestion and forced at least 40 businesses to close temporarily. The chaos was linked to the Stink and Dutty fete, confirmed by Marine Services Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MSATT). The problem was exacerbated due to the single route in and out of the peninsula, which complicated emergency responses. The disruption also impacted local residents, particularly those living on offshore islands, causing shortages and delays. While the community is not against the Carnival, they are calling for better planning and infrastructure to prevent future disruptions. This includes comprehensive traffic management, meaningful consultation with stakeholders, and a focus on safety and continuity. The impact extended to individual businesses, such as Sails Restaurant, which had to remain closed due to the traffic issues.
