CARICOM Leaders Mobilize Relief Efforts for Venezuela After Earthquakes

In a proactive response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela, CARICOM leaders, including Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley, have announced a coordinated relief initiative. The leaders met to discuss immediate humanitarian assistance and committed to mobilizing resources swiftly. They revealed plans for a ferry laden with 88 containers of supplies, set to depart from Guyana, to support those impacted.

Prime Minister Mottley highlighted Barbados’ efforts in deploying a certified field hospital to assist the overwhelmed medical infrastructure in Venezuela. The urgency of their response underscores a shared regional responsibility to aid a neighboring nation facing tribulations. With the ongoing crisis in Venezuela a poignant reminder of possible challenges any Caribbean nation could face, this movement exhibits CARICOM’s commitment to solidarity and compassion in the face of humanitarian needs.

Both leaders echoed the importance of sustained communication with Venezuelan officials as they navigate the ongoing challenges posed by the earthquakes. Their discussion reflects a broader commitment from CARICOM to address regional vulnerabilities and uphold a unified approach in times of crisis.
