Caribbean Airlines completes outstanding audits, moves to clear backlog

Caribbean Airlines says it has completed its audited financial statements for 2017, 2018 and 2019 as the state-owned carrier works to clear a backlog of outstanding audits and strengthen financial accountability. The airline announced the development following its 9th Annual General Meeting, held on September 22 at its head office in Piarco, Trinidad. According to Caribbean Airlines, its audited financial statements for 2020 are targeted for completion by the end of October 2026, while audits covering the financial years 2021 to 2025 are also scheduled to be completed. Chairman Reyna Kowlessar described bringing the airline’s audited financial statements up to date as an important part of efforts to rebuild, grow and position the company for long-term success. The airline said the work forms part of a wider programme aimed at strengthening its viability and operational performance amid a challenging global aviation environment. Caribbean Airlines also pointed to rising fuel prices as a significant source of pressure on operating costs and said it continues to exercise financial and operational discipline while maintaining essential connectivity. Among the measures being pursued is a route rationalisation programme introduced in 2025. The airline said it continues to assess its network to align routes with market demand and commercial realities. Caribbean Airlines is also advancing a fleet optimisation strategy that includes the sale of two ATR aircraft. According to the company, one of those aircraft has already been delivered to its new owner. The airline said the initiatives are being supported by policy reforms, stronger financial compliance and oversight as it seeks to improve organisational discipline and ensure resources are used responsibly.
