Canada has officially reinstated a resident High Commissioner to Zambia, marking the first time the country has maintained a permanent diplomatic representative in the nation in over 15 years. The move follows a request from Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, who has sought to bolster diplomatic ties to advance trade, investment, and economic cooperation under his administration’s Grow Zambia agenda.
Henry Kapata, the Director of Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Media, confirmed the development. The appointment coincides with the formal presentation of credentials by eight newly appointed diplomats to the Zambian government.
