A tanker truck carrying fuel overturned on Friday afternoon at kilometer 8 of the Hato Mayor–Sabana de la Mar highway, spilling gasoline and causing traffic to be halted in both directions. The driver was unharmed. The incident occurred after the municipal landfill, but the circumstances remain unclear according to preliminary reports. Emergency response units from the National Emergency and Security System (9‑1‑1) and fire departments from Hato Mayor, Sabana de la Mar, El Valle and El Seibo arrived on the scene to contain the spill and prevent further incidents. The operation is coordinated by Santiago Julio Mejía, fire chief of Hato Mayor, due to the risk posed by the fuel on the roadway. Agents from the General Directorate of Road Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) and the National Police are also present to secure the area and manage traffic. The spill has caused a congestion on the highway while authorities work to remove the vehicle and restore normal traffic flow. Drivers have been advised to avoid the area until emergency operations are completed. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
