**Cambodian King Receives Leader of Global Council for Tolerance and Peace at Inter‑Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference**
*Phnom Penh, Cambodia – 28 August 2026* – King Norodom Sihamoni welcomed Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh on Monday. The meeting was part of the second Inter‑Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC‑2), which is being hosted by Cambodia and brings together parliamentary speakers and delegations from around the world.
Al Jarwan, leading the Council’s delegation, highlighted the “importance of strengthening international cooperation and promoting the values of tolerance and peace.” In his remarks, he urged parliaments to play a more active role in diplomatic efforts, stating that legislative bodies can help transform conflicts into opportunities for dialogue and translate international commitments into concrete policies and legislation.
The President of the Council also thanked Cambodian leaders for hosting the event, specifically naming King Sihamoni, Senate President Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and National Assembly President Khuon Sudary for their support of peace initiatives and international cooperation.
Al Jarwan referenced the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, an organization affiliated with the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, which claims a network of parliamentary members from more than 120 countries. He said the organization works to foster dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation among peoples.
The conference’s theme, “Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity: Strengthening International Law and Resolving Conflicts Peacefully,” was cited as reflecting the need for collective action and enhanced parliamentary diplomacy to address global challenges.
On the sidelines of the conference, Senate President Hun Sen met separately with Al Jarwan. The two officials discussed potential avenues for deeper cooperation on tolerance, peacebuilding, and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering stability.
The ISC‑2 continues through the week, featuring sessions on legislative responses to international conflicts, mechanisms for parliamentary collaboration, and strategies for promoting shared prosperity across member states.
