Brimbank among highest overdose rates in state

Brimbank recorded one of the highest overdose rates in Victoria during the period from 2015 to 2024.

Data compiled by the Penington Institute indicate that drug‑induced fatalities in Australia have reached a historic peak, largely driven by a record number of unintentional overdoses.

In the nine‑year span, Brimbank experienced 171 unintentional drug‑induced deaths, ranking it fourth in overdose rate among Victorian local government areas.

These findings underscore the ongoing public health challenge posed by drug misuse in the Brimbank region.
