The BRICS summit in New Delhi continues on Sunday with an open session featuring member and partner countries, alongside a series of bilateral meetings hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Modi is set to hold discussions with leaders from seven nations, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Meetings are also scheduled with Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo, and Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The summit, hosted by India under the theme Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability, aims to deliberate on areas of common interest and strengthen cooperation among participating nations. On Saturday, BRICS leaders adopted the New Delhi Declaration, which Prime Minister Modi described as a reflection of a group that is wider in reach and stronger in purpose.
The declaration addressed several international issues, including the escalation of tensions in West Asia. The document called for maximum restraint and reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Additionally, the participating nations expressed concern regarding unilateral economic sanctions and protectionist policies, noting that arbitrary tariff hikes and trade barriers may disrupt global supply chains.
India assumed the BRICS presidency on January 1, 2026, focusing on a human-centric approach to reinforce institutional strength and support sustainable growth across the bloc.
