A 46-year-old boat mechanic, identified as W.A., drowned in the Suriname River on the afternoon of Friday, September 18. The incident occurred after the man had completed repair work on an outboard motor.
According to reports, the mechanic likely slipped while attempting to exit the vessel and fell into the water. Witnesses at the scene observed him disappear beneath the surface immediately, citing the strong current of the river as a contributing factor.
Following the incident, the police department in Meerzorg and the Maritime Division initiated a search operation to locate the individual.
