Bolaspamba inicia seguimiento satelital de tres especies de gallinazos

Bolaspamba, a parish in the canton of Zapotillo in Loja province, Ecuador, began a satellite tracking program for three species of carrion birds on 4 August 2026.

During a six‑day research effort that concluded on 9 August, seven carrion birds belonging to three different species were captured and fitted with tracking devices. The birds were then released to allow scientists to monitor their movements, habitat use and health status across the southern region of Ecuador.

The initiative is part of the “Seguimiento ecológico del gallinazo rey y…” project, which aims to gather long‑term ecological data on these species.

All data collected will be used to better understand the birds’ migration patterns and to inform conservation strategies for the region.
