Biya regime faces 2027-2029 budget financing gap without new IMF Program

Cameroon Faces Budget Financing Gap for 2027-2029 Without New IMF Program

The government of Cameroon is anticipating a budget financing gap for the period of 2027-2029 if it does not secure a new economic and financial program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to plans, Cameroon aims to obtain CFA300 billion in budget support from the IMF in 2027.

The funding, which is conditional, has already been factored into the government’s financing plan for next year’s budget. The total financing needs for the budget are projected to be CFA3.1615 trillion.

The Cameroonian government is relying on the new IMF program to address the anticipated financing gap. Without the program, the government may face significant challenges in meeting its budgetary obligations for the 2027-2029 period.
