As of July 17, the Government of Bermuda has instituted a new requirement for Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) passport holders, mandating that they possess a valid visa from Canada, the UK, or the US to enter the country. This measure comes after the revocation of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection (Prohibition of Entry) Order 2025, which has been replaced by a new regulation aimed at updating immigration policies. Under the revised rules, T&T nationals can enter Bermuda either by holding valid travel authorization for Canada, the UK, or the US, which must be valid for at least 45 days from their intended departure, or by presenting a letter from the Government confirming their status as a spouse of a Bermudian or their eligibility under specific sections of Bermuda’s Constitution. These changes reflect ongoing reviews of immigration policies within Bermuda. The announcement follows similar visa policy implementations by the UK and Ireland earlier this year, which required T&T nationals to obtain visas before traveling. Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Sean Sobers is currently engaging with UK officials to discuss these visa policies. Sobers has pointed out that the previous administration was informed well in advance about the necessary legislative amendments needed to prevent such requirements, indicating a lack of proactive measures to address the issue before the deadline.
