Beenie Man Says His Catalogue Includes 187 Number-One Songs And More Than 2,000 Hits Dancehall icon Beenie Man has reflected on the size of his music catalogue, saying many of his records do not receive the same attention as the songs most closely associated with his international success. Speaking during an interview on JusNik Interviews, also presented as The JusNik Show, the Jamaican entertainer was asked whether there were records from his career that he believes people do not talk about enough. Beenie Man said there were many, pointing to several older songs while explaining that discussions about his career often focus on a relatively small selection of records. “There’s a lot of songs that people don’t really talk about,” he said, referencing songs including “Memories” and “Old Dog” among examples from his extensive catalogue. He said much of the attention tends to go towards songs associated with Billboard success and Grammy recognition, despite those records representing only part of the music he has released throughout his career. Beenie Man also pointed to the length of his live performances, questioning how he could perform for approximately two hours if his catalogue consisted only of the handful of songs that regularly receive attention. The dancehall veteran then made a striking claim about the scale of his body of work, saying he has accumulated 187 number-one songs and more than 2,000 hit songs. “I got 187 number one songs. Thank you. I have over 2,000 hit songs,” he said. His comments highlighted what he sees as a difference between the records that have achieved widespread international recognition and the much larger catalogue he has built over decades in dancehall. Beenie Man also made it clear that he does not consider his musical journey finished. After discussing his catalogue and the songs he believes deserve greater recognition, he stressed that he is still creating new music.
