Barbados: Rain has final say as Kingsmen conquer Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders faced a challenging start to this year’s Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League as they encountered heavy rain on Saturday night, which ultimately led to a seven-run victory for the Jamaica Kingsmen via the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern (DLS) method. The match took place at the Queen’s Park Oval, where the Knight Riders managed to score 180 runs for six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Carty was eventually bowled by spinner Usman Tariq for 42 runs off 33 balls while attempting to accelerate the scoring. Earlier in the match, the Knight Riders appeared poised to exceed a total of 200 runs during a strong partnership between Narine and Munro, who combined for 101 runs in just nine overs. After a slow start, Narine began to find his rhythm, hitting Keemo Paul for a four and a six in one over. They also scored heavily off Ayub, accumulating 21 runs in the sixth over, which included sixes and multiple boundaries. Narine reached his second consecutive half-century in just 23 balls, propelling the Knight Riders past the 100-run mark.

However, Paul managed to dismiss Narine spectacularly, as he was caught by Odean Smith at mid-off for 53 runs off 24 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. This wicket triggered a mini-collapse for the Knight Riders, with Player-of-the-Match Vitel Lawes playing a crucial role. Lawes dismissed Munro for 52 runs off 42 balls, took out the dangerous Kieron Pollard for a first-ball duck, and also claimed Matthew Tromp’s wicket without any runs, leaving the Knight Riders at 120 for four after 14 overs.

Captain Nicholas Pooran attempted to stabilize the innings with a responsible unbeaten knock of 60 runs off 37 balls, featuring five fours and three sixes. However, the rain ultimately determined the outcome of the match, preventing the Knight Riders from achieving a higher total. Lawes concluded his bowling spell with impressive figures of 3 for 29, while Hunain Shah contributed with 2 for 27.
