A 55‑year‑old farm labourer, Tulu Mia, was found dead in his own home in the Shajahanpur sub‑district of Bogura district, Bangladesh. Police recovered the body from a bed in the house on the morning of Saturday, the 27th of October 2024, in the small village of Khurshudara in Amrul Union. According to police and local sources, Mia had been living alone after his wife left for Saudi Arabia about 40 days earlier to earn money for the family. His two daughters, Jamie and Juthia Akhtar, were married and living elsewhere. Juthia, who had been caring for her father because of his severe abdominal pain, was at home when the incident occurred. Juthia reported that at around 8 a.m. she went to fetch water for her father. When she returned, she found him sitting in bed with a blood‑stained knife beside him. She said that her father had apparently cut his own throat. She attempted to give him water, but he died shortly thereafter. Shajahanpur police officer Ashik Ikbal, who was in charge of the case, said that the body was taken to the morgue at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. He added that the preliminary assessment points to suicide, but the final cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is available. The daughter has been taken to the police station for questioning as part of the investigation.
